(01) How it works
A finished CV in four steps
- 01
Start
Fill in the form, import from LinkedIn, a PDF or JSON, or load my CV as an example to see a finished one.
- 02
Write
Add roles newest first with 2 to 6 achievement lines each. The ATS and writing checks flag what to fix as you type.
- 03
Tailor
Paste a job description to see matched and missing keywords, duplicate your CV for that job, and write a matching cover letter.
- 04
Export
Pick a template, then download a text-based PDF or a Word file. Keep a JSON copy to reuse anywhere.
(02) Templates
Eight templates, tested for ATS
Every template uses standard headings (Professional Summary, Skills, Professional Experience, Selected Projects, Education), real text and common fonts, and works with any font, accent color, spacing and paper size. Seven are single column.
Classic
The exact layout of my own CV: Arial, bold section rules, one column. The safest choice for any ATS.
Modern
Same structure with a color accent on your name and section titles. Any accent color you like.
Compact
Smaller type and tighter spacing to fit a long history onto two pages without dropping content.
Executive
A serif typeface and centered header for senior, academic or traditional industries.
Minimal
Generous whitespace, no rules, a quiet accent on your headline. Calm and very readable.
Elegant
Serif type with accent bars beside each section title. Classic, with a little character.
Banner
Your name and contact details in a colored header band. Still one column and fully parseable.
Sidebar
Two columns with skills and education on the side. Looks great for networking; for job portals, prefer a single-column template.
(03) Use with AI
Let ChatGPT or Claude do the typing
Open AI prompts in the app to copy one with your CV and the job description already filled in, paste it into any assistant, then import the reply. Every prompt forbids invented facts, but read the result before you send it anywhere.
Convert my CV below into JSON Resume v1.0.0 (https://jsonresume.org/schema) so I can import it into a CV generator.
Rules:
- Use only facts from my CV. Do not invent employers, dates, numbers, links or skills. Leave out anything that is missing.
- Dates as "YYYY-MM" (or "YYYY" if only the year is known). Leave out endDate for a current role.
- basics: name, label (headline, e.g. "Senior React Developer"), email, phone, url, summary (3 to 5 sentences), location { city, region, countryCode }, profiles [{ network, username, url }].
- work (newest first): name (company), position, type (Full-time, Part-time, Contract, Freelance), location, startDate, endDate, summary (one line), highlights (2 to 6 short achievements, each starting with a verb, keeping my real numbers).
- projects: name, type, roles, entity (organization), url, description (one sentence), keywords (technologies used).
- skills: groups such as { "name": "Frontend", "keywords": ["React", "TypeScript"] }.
- education, certificates and languages if they appear in my CV.
- Reply with the JSON only, in one code block.

Improve the CV below for applicant tracking systems and human recruiters. It is in JSON Resume v1.0.0 format. Rules: - Keep every fact true. Do not add employers, titles, dates, numbers, links or skills I did not list. - Rewrite highlights as short achievement lines that start with a strong verb, keep existing numbers, one idea per line, under 200 characters. - Make the summary 3 to 5 sentences that match my headline. - Group skills sensibly and use standard names (for example "React", not "ReactJS stuff"). - Keep the exact same JSON structure and reply with the JSON only, in one code block. My CV (JSON):
Tailor my CV to the job description below. My CV is in JSON Resume v1.0.0 format. Rules: - Keep every fact true. Never add employers, titles, dates, numbers, links or skills I did not list. - Reorder and reword my summary, skills and achievement lines so the most relevant experience comes first and uses the job ad's terms where they honestly describe my work. - If the job asks for something I do not have, do not add it. List those gaps after the JSON instead. - Keep the exact same JSON structure and reply with the JSON in one code block, then the list of gaps.
Write a cover letter for the job below, using only facts from my CV (JSON Resume format). Rules: - 250 to 400 words, three or four paragraphs: why this company and role, two or three concrete achievements from my CV that match the job, and a short, confident close. - Do not invent experience, numbers or skills. Do not repeat the CV line by line. - Plain, warm, professional English. No clichés like "I am writing to express my interest". - Reply with the letter text only: greeting, paragraphs separated by blank lines, and closing.
For AI agents with browser access: the page exposes window.cvBuilder with load(jsonResume), get(), set({ template: 'modern' }), check(), content(), match(jobDescription), text(), markdown() and docx().

(04) ATS rules
What makes a CV ATS-friendly
- One column. Tables, sidebars and text boxes get read out of order.
- Standard section titles that parsers recognise, such as "Professional Experience".
- Real text in the PDF, never a scanned or designed image.
- Contact details in the body, not in the page header or footer.
- One consistent date format, with month and year for every role.
- Skill names exactly as job ads write them, for example "TypeScript" and "Next.js".
- Achievement lines that start with a verb and keep real numbers.
- No emoji, icons, skill bars or photos.
(05) FAQ
CV generator questions
Is this CV generator really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark, no paywall on downloads and no limit on how many CVs or cover letters you make. It runs entirely in your browser.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Your documents are stored only in this browser (localStorage) so you can come back to them. Imports, PDF reading and exports all happen on your device. Export the JSON file to keep a backup.
Are the templates ATS-friendly?
Seven of the eight templates are single column with standard section headings, real selectable text and common fonts. I tested every template by generating PDFs and extracting the text, which comes out complete and in reading order. The Sidebar template uses two columns, which some older parsers read across, so the app flags it.
How do I download my CV as a PDF or Word file?
Click Download PDF and choose "Save as PDF" in the print dialog, with margins on Default and "Headers and footers" turned off. The result is a text-based PDF. Click Word to download a .docx file with real headings and bullet lists, for job portals that ask for Word.
Can I import my existing CV or LinkedIn profile?
Yes. Import a JSON Resume or Reactive Resume file, the data export ZIP from LinkedIn (Settings, Data privacy, Get a copy of your data), or an existing PDF CV. PDF import reads the text and fills in what it recognises, so review every field afterwards.
How does the job match score work?
Paste a job description and the app extracts its skills and key terms, then shows which ones appear in your CV and which are missing. It is a guide for tailoring, like the match scores in paid tools, not a prediction of any employer's ATS. Only add keywords you genuinely have.
Can I make a cover letter too?
Yes. Create a cover letter, link it to one of your CVs so your details and design match, and write it yourself or with the AI prompt that uses your CV and the job description. It downloads as PDF, Word or text.
Can I use ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini with it?
Yes. The app gives you four prompts: convert an old CV to JSON, improve the wording, tailor the CV to a job, and write a cover letter. Each one forbids invented facts. Paste the reply back with Import, then check that every fact is still true.
Can I keep several versions of my CV?
Yes. Create as many CVs and cover letters as you like, duplicate one to tailor it for a specific job, and switch between them. Every document has undo and redo.
Should I add a photo?
Photos add nothing for applicant tracking systems, and many employers in the US, UK and elsewhere prefer CVs without them, so the photo is off by default. If your country expects one, add it under Contact and switch it on in Design.
How long should my CV be?
One page early in your career, two pages for most experienced professionals. The preview shows the page count and where each page breaks, and "Fit to pages" shrinks spacing and text slightly to make it fit.
